It began as routine mockery of a bizarre indoctrination film teaching kindergarteners about gender theory.
Then things took an even darker turn.
On Wednesday’s episode of his CRTV show, Get Off My Lawn, Conservative media personality Gavin McInnes deployed his usual disgruntled humor and ridicule to walk viewers through a promotional video making the rounds online.
The video features activists from a group called QMUNITY, an “LGBTQ/2S” non-profit resource for trans-positive early childhood education. QMUNITY goes into schools near Vancouver to teach children about transgenderism and pronoun usage.
Immediately after the episode aired, McInnes took a closer look at the video and noticed something even more grisly than the b-roll of a Canadian classroom adorned in posters of drag queens and children brainwashed with sing-song to see the world through a prism of sex and gender.
As Ayesh Kanani, a youth worker for QMUNITY and affiliate of Trans Alliance, speaks about use of the “they” pronoun for gender-trenders experiencing “fluidity and multiplicity,” b-roll in the video cuts to a sketchbook sitting on a table.
The sketchbook, apparently belonging to Kanani, shows lovingly crafted portraits of serial killers and mass murderers including Dylann Roof, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and “the Night Stalker” Richard Ramirez.
In 2015, Roof, a white supremacist, shot up a black church in Charleston, S.C. killing nine. Bundy, a rapist and necrophile, kidnapped and raped numerous young women throughout the 1970s. Ramirez, a serial rapist and murderer, terrorized the streets of Los Angeles and San Francisco in the 1980s. Dahmer raped, murdered, dismembered, and ate 17 men and boys from 1978 to 1991 in Milwaukee.
The footage also features Moscrop Secondary School English teacher and Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity lead Dan Adrian of Burnaby, Canada’s school district 41.
According to QMUNITY’s website, they are “a non-profit organization based in Vancouver, BC that works to improve queer, trans, and Two-Spirit lives,” that provides “a safer space for LGBTQ/2S people and their allies to fully self-express while feeling welcome and included. Our building serves as a catalyst for community initiatives and collective strength.”
Although immediately unclear when the video was made, it went viral this week in conservative media circles. McInnes was the first to notice the sketches of a racist church shooter and other mass murderers turned cult celebrites.
Remember when I was making fun of this video on Ep 124 of #GOML? Just noticed the teacher’s sketch pad. Check orig vid at -0:36 https://t.co/XC3gMFAKZU
Holy crap it is! @QMUNITY! What school is this!? We need to get this woman away from children. https://t.co/bWgZSSLF9h
QMUNITY’s video was archived by Rebel Media and could not be immediately found on any of QMUNITY’s social media pages, including YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook, suggesting it may have been removed after the twisted artwork was discovered.
While QMUNITY’s directory features lengthy bios explaining each staff member’s preferred pronoun, few appear to have any actual qualifications to teach children in a classroom setting.
Executive Director Osmel B. Guerra Maynes is a self-described “Afro Latino cisgender queer man” and studied “political science” at Carleton University. Carleton University is also McInnes’s alma mater.
Another QMUNITY youth worker, Molly Billows, describes herself as “a queer, two-spirit, trans non-binary, mixed, urban, Indigenous feminist, a spoken word poet and facilitator.” It is unknown whether her planned children’s book about “a genderqueer dinosaur” will also feature gay cannibals or necrophiles.
In February 2010, current Late Show host Stephen Colbert, on a visit to Pride House Vancouver, appeared before a QMUNITY banner and spoke to members in a video captured on YouTube. The L Word actress Jennifer Beals also appeared at a nightclub called Lick promoting a fundraiser for QMUNITY.
QMUNITY’s website explains,
“Through publications, multimedia materials, one-on-one consultations, and interactive workshops, our Diversity and Inclusion Experts help individuals, families, businesses, schools, and service providers to identify and avoid discriminatory behaviours and to explore the complexity, fluidity, and potential of sexual and gender diversity.”
QMUNITY and Burnaby District 41 did not respond to requests for comment.
On May 8, QMUNITY is scheduled to host “Children’s Book Week” in Vancouver.
Gather ’round, students. Today’s story is titled Helter Skelter.
